What's going on with my placement?

March departure dates. Plenty of them are being announced at peacecorpsjournals. And I am still waiting to hear about my January nomination. What's going on? Was I not competitive enough? Are protected areas management applicants moved along at a slower pace? Am I going somewhere else, at a later time? I'd love to know what's happening to me. How about an update tomorrow, Peace Corps? Please?

  1. Have you emailed placement? Maybe they just need a polite little prodding

  2. I did on the 4th. They told me if I didn't hear from them in two weeks, I should feel free to email again. Getting pretty close to that.

  3. If it makes you feel better I'm still waiting for medical clearance for a January 2011 nomination. It's been three months since I submitted my medical kit. I comfort myself with the fact that no one else (that I know of) has received invitations for SSA in January.

  4. Well, at least we're not alone! I felt like one of the only ones left waiting to hear about a January departure. Still, wish we'd know what's going on.

  5. i think ag/env is a slower moving desk..seems like a lot of the people get jan/feb placements are getting ed assignments...

  6. It seems that way. I hope that's it :)

  7. Hey, just thought I'd send a few words to hopefully ease your frustrations. Technically, I think the majority of people receiving March invites are those who were bumped from their original programs leaving in the fall. They get through those first before they send any invites for those originally nominated to that location ... take me for example. I was originally nominated to leave in October but was bumped. Once they finished with fall, they found a placement for me in Thailand in January and once all of the people in my situation are done, theyw ill work with those still on their original timeline.

I know that's probably still frustrating to see people getting invites, but it's not because they're picking on you ... its because they are trying to accommodate those who were thrown off kilter in the process.

Good luck. I hope you hear something soon!

  8. Your not alone! I'm a Jan/Feb nominatee too, and I am still waiting. I was told by placement not to expect anything till November.

  12. My recruiter recently told me that you shouldn't expect your invitation until 8 weeks before your slated departure, so hopefully its not anything to worry about yet. Good luck!

  13. I've heard that too, but I wonder then why people are getting invites for February and March? And thank you :)

  14. Drives you crazy, doesn't it? I wouldn't get to worried yet though. There's still plenty of time. If it starts getting closer to the wire, THEN I would start bugging people.

I've done my fair share of bugging already ^_~

  15. Absolutely crazy! But I've sort of mellowed out now. I don't check my computer right when I wake up (still in bed), I don't carry my phone with me everywhere (including the shower with the ring turned up...). Still, I'd like to know!
